This year saw Germany host the most famous fashion photography prize for the sixth time as part of the Igedo Fashion Fair: the winner was named as Philipp Jeker and among the 4000 images submitted, his ‘Geisha picture’ captivated and enchanted the panel. The ‘silver medal’ went to Rui Camilo, while Simone Rosenbauer claimed third place. But the newcomers to fashion photography also made their presence felt: Vera Schäper was nominated as best newcomer for one of the images in her series “Heimat” (“Homeland”). The winners were singled out on the occasion of the Canon ProFashional MediaNight, held on 28 July at the NRW Forum in Düsseldorf. The representative exhibition of the winning pictures from the sixth Canon ProFashional Photo Award 2008 could be viewed within the Igedo Fashion Fair premises in Düsseldorf as well as online at http://www.canon-profashional-photo-award.de.

This year as well, the results of the Canon ProFashional Photo Award were impressive. Whether produced spontaneously or with an arranged picture scene, and unpretentious or glamorous portrayals, all have one thing in common: behind each lies a great talent.

These were honored by the professional panel of experts, including Thomas Gerwers (PROFIFOTO), Belmira Hadziefendic (InStyle), Thomas Rasch (GermanFashion Modeverband Deutschland e.V.), Bettina Steeger (Canon Deutschland), Michael Tafelmaier (COLORFOTO), Klaus Tiedge (DESIGNERS DIGEST) and Antje Verhoeven-Helf (Igedo Company). The panel’s unanimous opinion: more pictures than ever before, a record level of quality and many interesting trends in fashion photography.

“As the organiser of the most important German fashion fairs, the Igedo is an ideal partner for us to give the participating photographers great exposure for their work,” says Bettina Steeger, Marketing Manageress of Canon Deutschland GmbH. The competition offers participants a free forum – free of the ideas potential clients might leave on fashion photography. This is why young, unspoilt creativity, motifs caught between provocation and harmony as well as unusual details are hallmarks of the entries.
